RI, Brazil to cooperate in agricultural research

Minister of Agriculture Suswono met on Monday with Ambassador of Brazil in Indonesia Paulo Alberto Da Silveira Soares among others to discuss ways for further cooperation in agricultural research.

The ministry said in a statement that the two countries have decided to set up a working group to realize the cooperation including in the areas of soybean, sugar, and oil palm.  Brazil is the world’s major producer of soybean and sugar, while Indonesia is the largest producer of palm oil.

Minister Suswono said that cooperation with Brazil will help Indonesia’s efforts to become self-sufficient in the production of sugar and soybean.

According to the ministry statement, the two countries will sign an MoU on the technical cooperation project in the areas of oil palm research, oil palm genetic material exchange, and exchange of sugar experts. (rei)
