At least 400ha of Musim Mas' conservation area burnt

At least 400 hectares of conservation areas belongs to PT Musim Mas were found burnt in four main points, including Estate VI in Talau and Betung, Riau Province.

"We allocated a total 1,619 hectares for conservation areas from the total of 28,000 hectares of palm oil concession lands, and 400 hectares of them were burnt by unknown parties who, we believe, gained access from the Nilo river," said Musim Mas Senior Manager Kana Ramdhan this Saturday.

Loggs were found burnt in the area, indicating no intention of illegal logging.

According to Kana, Musim Mas conservation areas housed up to 27 species of birds, including 4 protected species such as Buceros bicornis, Woodland Kingfish, Black Winged Kite and Red Heron, in addition to 28 types of butterflies and other protected animals. (eaz)
