Weather condition favorable for food crop production: BMKG

The Geophysics, Climatology, and Meteorology Agency (BMKG) predicts that weather condition between January and May of 2012 will be relatively favorable for food crop production.

“The climate condition is quite favorable.  At least until May 2012 climate will be normal.  If the condition remains stable, there’s huge potential for the expansion of food crop production,” said Endro Santoso, a climatologist at BMKG over the weekend during a seminar.

He pointed out that between September 2011 and May 2012, the effect of El Nino, with its dry weather impact, and El Nina, with its wet weather impact, is not so strong, with a stable tendency.

Endro, however, warned that there could be a sudden shift in weather condition as occurred in 2010.  He said the BMKG will make a monthly update on weather condition, hoping that the final weather condition for next year could be released in February. (rei)
