A number of Australian food and beverage makers have expressed interest to get their supply of cocoa and chocolate raw materials from Indonesia, the world’s third largest cocoa producer after Ivory Coast and Ghana

The Ministry of Trade said in a press statement on Tuesday that the request came after several Indonesian food and beverage companies participated in the Good Food & Wine Show in Sydney on July 1-3, 2011.

The ministry said that Sanitarium, an Australian producer of breakfast foods and soy, plans to visit PT Garuda Food and Putra Putri Jaya to discuss about the supply of  raw materials for breakfast and soyfoods.

“Sanitarium is interested to develop a number of joint projects with PT Garuda Food Putra Putri Jaya in the area of healthy snack bars,” the statement said.

In addition, PT Wahana Interfood Nusantara, a local cocoa and chocolate maker, plans to visit one of Australia’s food service distributors to discuss cocoa supply business. (rei)
