Minister of Agriculture Suswono said that the government will provide incentives for investment in plantation or food crops in border areas.

Suswono said on Monday that there’s huge potential for investment in border areas, but the main challenges is the lack of infrastructure facilities, and the fact that the border areas are mostly in the form of forest, thus requiring investors to be patient in order to obtain the necessary permits to convert it into plantation or agriculture site.

“That’s why investors will need some form of incentives such as tax break or tax holiday,” Suswono said, but did not provide details.

He said that the government is determined to develop the economy of the country’s border areas as part of defense strategy. (rei)
