Bank Mandiri plans micro-financing for agriculture sector

Bank Mandiri, the country’s largest bank by assets, plans to expand lending in the agriculture sector by providing micro-financing for small-scale businesses in the sector.


Bank Mandiri Finance Director Pahala Mansyuri was quoted on Tuesday by Media Indonesia online as saying that this would be the first time for the bank to provide micro-financing for small businesses in the agriculture sector, which is quite different to lending to large plantation companies.


He said that the bank is still studying the feasibility of the new business.  He added that among of the areas to be covered include agriculture sector in East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, Papua and Maluku. (rei)
