Rubber production in S. Kalimantan improves

Rubber production in Central Hulu Sungai Regency, South Kalimantan, has started to increase as improving weather condition allows longer days for farmers to tap rubber, Kompas reported on Wednesday.

Kosim, Head of a local farmers’ group, said that during the past rainy season, farmers could not properly tap their rubber plantation, causing production to decline by around 25-30 percent.

“So when rainfall lessens, the farmers can resume normal tapping activity,” Kosim said.

Farmers in the Tabalong Regency also expressed similar condition, adding that the less rain improves the quality of the latex as well. (rei)
