Indonesia’s rubber export volume this year is projected to slightly increase to 2.79 million tons from 2.63 million tons last year, said Suharto Honggokusumo, Executive Director of the Indonesian Rubber Producers Association on Monday.

He expected signs of recovery in the US economy will provide positive impact on the global automotive industry, the largest market of rubber.  In addition, there has been progress in the efforts to resolve the debt crisis in Europe.

Regarding price outlook, Suharto said that it’s increasingly difficult now to make projection as price has been largely influenced by speculators in the global commodity market, instead the traditional supply and demand factors.

Output from the world’s second biggest producer may rise 6.5 percent to 3.3 million metric tons this year after gaining 12 percent to 3.1 million tons last year, said Suharto. (Firman)
