Minister of Agriculture Suswono said that Indonesia will stop corn import starting 2014 as the country’s production is already sufficient to meet demand including from the animal feed industry.

Suswono said that domestic corn output of between 17-18 million tons is already sufficient to fulfill the demand of the animal feed industry.

He acknowledged that the industry has continued to import corn arguing that local supply are not reliable.  “Our target is for the import to be stopped in 2014,” he said on Wednesday. (rei)
