Syngenta Indonesia to increase corn seeds production

PT Syngenta Indonesia aims to increase corn seeds production this year to 6,000 tons from 5,000 tons last year.

“The prospect of horticulture seeds business particularly corn is still wide open,” said Regulatory and Corporate Affairs Advisor of PT Syngenta Indonesia, Tantono Subagyo as quoted by Kotan on Friday.

To strengthen its horticulture seeds business, Syngenta Indonesia expects its new Rp 250 billion seeds factory in Pasuruan, East Java, to start operation in March 2012.  Aside from producing corn seeds, the facility will also produce chili and tomato seeds.

Tantono said that corn seeds business accounted for about 15 percent of the company’s total revenue.  About 75 percent comes from the pesticide business.  He did not provide figure.

Tantono said that the company exports about 33 percent of its total corn seeds production to Vietnam. (rei)
