Cocoa beans export volume from Central Sulawesi, one of the main producing provinces in Indonesia, during the January-February period of 2012 dropped by 40.73 percent to 6,110 tons from 10,310 tons in the same period of 2011.

As a result, cocoa export value during the period US13.29 million from $28.46 million in the January-February 2011 period, said Abdul Muin, Head of the Export Section of the province’s trade office.

Muin, however, is optimistic that export revenue this year will be higher than last year.  There are 20 registered cocoa exporters in the province, but he said that only seven were active making export during the January-February period.

The seven firms include PT Sulawesi Central Commodity, PT Olam Indonesia, PT Nedcommodities, PT Multi Jasa Sarana, PT Tanah Mas Celebes, PT Prima Karya Wirausaha, and CV Celebes Agro Perkasa.

The main export markets of Central Sulawesi’s cocoa beans include Malaysia, Singapore, China, Brazil, the US, Italy, and India. (rei)
